William LeRoy “Lee” Amos JR. ,75, of Nashport passed away peacefully on Saturday September 3, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14, 1947 to the late Gladys Kirk Queen and William L. Amos SR.
Lee worked hard his entire life. He figured out how to fix anything and fulfilled his dream of doing the best he could do to take care of his family. He was successful in everything he set out to do. Lee retired as a welder at Owens Corning Fiberglass. He and his wife built a successful concession business “The Big Onion”, he was known as the “Onion Man” for 23 years. He always told it like it was. Lee truly loved his family, his concession family, and all of his many friends. He was always there when someone needed help. He had a tough exterior but a heart of Gold. He was a proud member of the Greater Ohio Showman’s Association (G.O.S.A.) where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Lee was proud to be an honorary Utica Fireman and other organizations throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Debbie Farmer Amos, precious daughter Kathy (Randy) Hinkle, four grandsons: Cody, Cameron, Evan, and Nathan, six great grandchildren, three sisters: Pat Price of Columbus, Ohio, Sue (Sonny) Brown of Circleville, Ohio, and Marilyn (Oliver) Copley of Florida, several nieces and nephews, and his best buddies Tom Roahrig, Jack Kent, and Donald Otterbacker.
He will be missed by his family and everyone that knew him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by William L. “Bill” Amos III, brothers David Howell, Buddy Amos, and Bud Hanney. Sisters: Carol Wilson and Arayawanna Kent.
In honoring Lee’s wishes a celebration of life will be held at a later date. A private burial will take place in Smith Chapel Cemetery.
