Victoria Sokol, 90, of Byesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family by her side on February 15, 2022. Vicki battled the devastating disease of Alzheimer’s for approximately seven years, having done so with the utmost dignity, even at the end.
Vicki was born on March 21, 1931 in Buffalo, Ohio, to the late John and Blanche (Olshawsky) Lonca. After graduating from Valley Local (Buffalo) High School, she became employed at the former Champion Spark Plug. There she would spend 39 years assuming the duties of operating the switchboard, a secretary, and then becoming the Head Production Clerk. She so loved her work family and often shared with us many humorous stories of their days at Champion.
In addition to her parents, Vicki is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vasil Sokol Jr., who left us suddenly on September 9, 1979; her siblings, Alex Lonca, Stanley Lonca, John Lonca, her twin Victor Lonca, Mary Fairhurst, and Helen Evans.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Leisa and Gary Brown; her granddaughter Aarica DuBeck; her great-grandson and prized possession, Alton James-Vasil Eisenman; her sister, Sophia Kahn, of Cambridge; a very special niece who followed her journey closely, Celeste (Glen) Deckman of Navarre; many other nieces and nephews; and her dear pets, especially Moose, who was her best buddy.
To say that her family and friends will miss her is an understatement. Gaga or Vic as she was always affectionately known by, was the life of a party and had a sense of humor that will remain unforgettable, and as her illness progressed, you never knew what might come out of her mouth, giving her caregivers and family smiles and laughs. Her unselfishness was always evident, putting her family’s needs ahead of her own at all times.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care she was given for nearly three years. Extra-special Thank You’s are in order to long-term cargiver, Cheryl Johnson, who was by Gaga’s side during this entire journey; her current nurse, Beth Robb, who bonded with Vic immediately; all other Aides and Nurses who cared for her; her former nurse who Gaga adored, Courtney Huhn; and her private caregiver and longtime friend, Thais Anderson. We must mention the precise, professional care given by Dr. Stacey Brown-Brocklehurst. You are all Angels on earth.
Per Vicki’s wishes, no calling hours or memorial service will be held. She would wish to be remembered by recalling a fun time or good memory you have of her. If you wish to memorialize Vicki, the family asks that you donate to an Animal Shelter of your choice. The family entrusted her final wishes to be carried out by the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord.
