Vernon Edward â€œJayâ€ Moore, 84 of Zanesville, Ohio passed away at 12:50 p.m. Sunday September 11, 2011 at the Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born September 10, 1927 in Summerfield, Ohio to the late Elwell C. and Lillie L. Cunningham Moore.
He did many things to support his family in the early years. Vernon farmed, delivered milk, mail and drove school bus. He started working in the public sector in 1953 at Cleveland Graphite and then at Remington Rand. He was employed with Ohio Ferro Alloy for 28 years until they closed. He was plant manager for 2 years for Longaberger Baskets and then worked for Kesslar Signs.
Vernon graduated from Summerfield High School in 1945 and the school of hard knocks. He had served as President of the Noble Local School Board. He was a 50+-year member of the order of Eastern Stars Masterson Chapter and Olive Masonic Lodge, past master 4 times. He was also a member of the Amrou Grotto.
Vernon was a member of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church having served on various committees. He had sung in a church choir for 62 years.
He is survived by the love of his life his wife of 63 years Norma Mann Moore of the home whom he married June 5, 1948. Three daughters Carol Jean (Daniel) Nelson of Summerfield, North Carolina, Judy Kay (Thomas) Welsh of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Joyce Lynn (Douglas) Murphy of Hebron, Ohio and a son-in-law Steve Satterfield of Winfield, West Virginia.
Eleven Grandchildren Michelle Murphy, Tim Welsh, Christine (Joe) Sinodis, Erik (Melissa) Nelson, Michael Welsh, Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson, Sarah Murphy (Brian Labuda), Caryn (Randy) Welch, Margaret Nelson, Jacob and Ryan Satterfield. Twelve great-grandchildren, Allison, Austin and Andrew Dzierwa, Taylor and Charlie Welsh, Kate and Lily Sinodis, Trent and Leiah Johnson, Mary and Emily Welch, and Matthew Labuda. A niece Dolly (Richard) Stevens, 2 great-nieces and a great nephew and special cousins Donnie, Aimee, Amelia, and April Bartenschlag.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Janet Marie Satterfield and his sister and brother in law Edith and Tom Janes.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, 383 Main Street, Duncan Falls, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday September 13th, with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
Friends will then be received at 10 am at Central Trinity United Methodist Church 62 South Seventh Street, Zanesville until the time of the services at 11 am Wednesday September 14th, with Pastors Dr. Steven Fewell, Tom England, and Jeffrey Belt officiating. Burial will be in Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield, Ohio. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m.
