Mona L. Taylor 78 of Zanesville, passed away surrounded by family at 1:41 PM on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born in Buffalo, Ohio on April 16, 1933 to Gus Taylor and Dorothy Phillips Taylor.
Mona proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. She also worked as a lab technician at Good Samaritan Hospital from 1960-1963. She retired as a Machinist Supervisor in 1988 from Newark Air force Base. She is a Life Member of the American Legion Post 29, Marine Corps League and Women Marines Memorial. In 1958 Mona was a runner up for the Ed Sullivan All Service Show and the first female in the Marine Corp Band.
She is survived by her brother Jerry (Sue) Taylor of Jacksonville, Ohio and sister Belva (John) White of Avondale, Ohio and several Nieces and Nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jackie Taylor and niece Terri Ann Taylor.
The Family is being served by the BRYAN & SNIDERFUNERAL HOME 2318 Maple Ave, where visitation will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 from 4PM to 7 PM. Service will be Saturday, September 3, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Will Mullins will officiate. Following the service Mona will be laid to rest with full military honors, near her parents at the Buffalo Cemetery in Valley Township, Ohio.
