Mary Anne Blake, age 95 of Zanesville, OH, passed away 10:35 PM, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Helen Purcell Home in Zanesville.
She was born Monday, March 21, 1927 in Zanesville, the daughter of Walter Phillip Freiermuth and Mary Faye (James) Freiermuth. She was married on Saturday, June 26, 1948 to Lewis Blake who preceded her in death on Saturday, December 20, 2003.
Mary Anne’s life was one of family, friends, music and service.
She attended St. Nicholas High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1945. Her great love of music began during this time. She studied classical piano music, played in the band and also sang in the church choir. Her love for music continued as she later served as choir director and organist at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She served as the funeral organist at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and pianist for the Greater Zanesville Singers. She also enjoyed composing music and poetry.
Mary Anne held many secretarial positions over the years, including those at law offices, Big Brothers, St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Veterans Services. She served as president and secretary of the local Catholic Social Services Board, a member of the Liturgy Committee and was appointed to the Diocesan Sub-Committee of Sacred Music.
Mary Anne’s true passion was always her family. Her love was the foundation of her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family always came first.
Mary Anne is survived by two children, Tim (Brenda) Blake of Nashport and Bev (Joe) Olah of Zanesville, grandchildren, Tayler, Kevin, Alec and Caden Blake and Stacy (Ron) Maurer; one great-grandson, Evan Maurer.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one son, Gregory L. Blake and her sister, Dorothy Freiermuth.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, OH. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30AM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 955 Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin Ralko officiating. Burial will conclude in the Mount Olive Cemetery Zanesville.
