Mark A Meyers, 79 of Zanesville , OH died 11:30 AM Monday, April 04, 2011 at his residence following a long illness.
He was born Thursday, April 09, 1931 in Zanesville the son of daughter of Paul C. and Kathryn (Friedenauer) Myers.
Mark was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he lived in Florida, then in Alaska where he was a member of the Teamsters Union for 21 years. On retiring he returned to Zanesville in 1980. He worked for several teams in the open wheel series of auto racing. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and other outdoor activities.
Mark is survived by his companion of 30 years, Sara (Hannah) Murray of the home; Daughters: Debbie (Brian) Leech of Alaska and Rachel Shelton of Lebanon, OH; Sons: Mark Murray of Zanesville, Nicholas (Beth) Murray of Worthington, and Christopher (Lisa) Murray of St. Joseph, IL; Brothers: Paul Jr. (Dorothy) of Charleston, W.V., and Ray of Columbus; Sisters: Dorothy and Mary Kathryn both of California. Grandsons: Reece Shelton, R.J. Murray and Keaton and Cameron Murray; numerous nieces and nephews; also, special friend: Bob McDonald of Zanesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Meyers and a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Ziegler of Zanesville.
Family will receive friends from 3:00pm to 5:30pm with Military Service at 5:30pm immediately followed by a celebration of Mark’s life conducted by family and friends on Saturday, April 9th at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. Zanesville. Honoring Mark’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered over water in Alaska at a later date.
