Margaret E. Pletcher (January 19, 1921 – April 22, 2011)

HILLIS & HARDWICK FUNERAL HOME OBIT:

Margaret E. Pletcher, 90 of Zanesville, Ohio died at 12:10 AM Friday, April 22, 2011 at Willow Haven Care Center following an extended illness. She was born on January 19, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA three days after her parents (Andrew and Julia Kish) arrived in the United States from Budapest, Hungry.
As a young girl she lived in Pomeroy, Ohio where she attended Catholic school and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Later on, her family moved to Roseville, Ohio where she graduated from high school. Soon after she obtained her cosmetology license, and eventually she opened and operated a beauty salon in Roseville for several years. Through-out her lifetime she worked several other jobs as well, for example, Nelson McCoy Pottery, The Mosaic Tile Company, and for a short time she sold Park Lane Jewelry. In 1943, she married Walter J. Pletcher, the love of her life. During this time she worked at her most rewarding profession, being a wife and mother. Together, she and her husband raised three sons and were married forty years until his death in 1983.
Margaret had great passion for life. She worked hard and played hard as well. Golf was one of her many pleasures. She won several awards over the years for her ability to manipulate that little ball. Her other interests included traveling, playing Bingo and cards. Also, she was an avid reader. Margaret never met a stranger. She enjoyed talking and meeting new people and her warm smile soon let you know that you had just made another friend. It would be safe to say that she packed a lot of living into that little dash between 1921-2011. Our mother was a great source of strength, love and faith, and she died knowing that by the grace of God her family would someday be joined together forever.
Margaret is survived by her three sons: Ronald (Mary) Pletcher of Omaha, Nebraska, John (Judy) Pletcher of Nashport, Ohio, and Michael Pletcher of Zanesville. Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Loraynia (Rob) Kearns, Kathryn (Tim) Hazelton, Gregory (Stephanie) Pletcher, Jennifer (Robert) McGraner of Pataskala; Allison (Fred Buck) Pletcher of Zanesville; and Adam (Jenni Imhoff) Pletcher of Columbus, plus three step-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition, Margaret is survived by her life long friend Atha Wesbar and her personal care giver Karla Leckrone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers: Andrew, Robert, and Joseph Kish. She was also preceded in death by two special friends, Juanita Harris and Gertrude Ebersbach.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 5PM-8PM at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, where funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11AM with Chaplin Tim Patton officiating. Burial will conclude in the Zanesville Memorial Park. It has been said that “Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come”. May you rest in peace and watch over us from heaven.
