Kenneth R. “Kenny” Hewitt

Kenneth “Kenny” R Hewitt, 79 of Zanesville, passed peacefully 7:30 AM, Friday, January 27, 2023, at his beloved cottage by the river.  He was born Thursday, May 27, 1943, in Zanesville, the son of Harry Hewitt and Geneva (Wheeler) Hewitt.

 

Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends at his cottage along the Muskingum River. He operated Howdy’s Bait Store as a hobby for visitors of the park for many years. He opened his home to every stray, whether human or canine, that came along, and continued to live with his faithful dogs, Penny and Skye.

 

Kenny touched the hearts of many in his lifetime, and he will be remembered fondly by everyone who crossed paths with the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Ellis Dam”. The family asks that in honor of his memory, you will do as he would, and do something kind for a stranger who may just need a helping hand.

 

Kenny is survived by four children, Lucinda (Charles) Clark, Dennis (Christy) Hewitt, Dana (Heather) Grimm and Shirley (David) Delaney; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas (Brenda) Hewitt; two sisters, Barbara West and Linda Shinn; numerous nieces and nephews; the mothers of his children, Carolyn Hewitt and Cynthia Kessler, along with their families, of which he continued to consider family of his own; his  long-time caregivers and special friends, Wanda Butler and Angie Alexander.

 

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Hewitt; two brothers-in-laws Kenneth West and Robert Shinn, and numerous lifelong friends.

 

Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Jack Harris officiating.
