Karen Michelle McElhaney, age 62, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Zanesville on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. Karen was born October 25, 1959 in Zanesville, Ohio to Neil and Lavella McElhaney. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, she was an elementary school teacher for nearly 40 years at St. Nicholas School and more recently Bishop Fenwick. She was loved and respected by her many students and peers over the years.
Karen is survived by her brother, Steve (Phyllis) McElhaney of Philo and sister, Gayle (Kevin) Kozak of Columbus. She is also survived by her cherished nephews, Nelson (Heather) McElhaney, Adam (Taylor) McElhaney, Collin (Amanda) Sims, Jordan Kozak and beloved niece, Kiara Kozak. Karen also leaves behind great-nephews Jakob, Kalob, Blake and Dylan McElhaney.
Karen was an avid reader, movie watcher and an expert at jigsaw puzzles. She loved traveling and exploring with her family. She and her sister loved cheering on their favorite Columbus Blue Jackets. Her passing has left a giant void in the lives of her family and all that knew her. She was much loved in life as she will be in death. Until we meet again.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Neil and Lavella McElhaney and her precious dog, Toby.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 6, 2022, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as celebrant.
