Frank R. Blaney

Frank R. Blaney, 94 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022, at the Morrison House of Zanesville, surrounded by the people who loved him.

Frank was born October 7, 1928, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Christy R. Blaney and Clyta Mae (Simmons) Blaney. He retired from Brockway Glass Co., employed from 1947 to 1985. He served 25 years as V.P. of the G.P.P.A. W. Local #159.

Frank proudly served in the U.S. Army from December 1950 to September 1952 during the Korean War. He was CPL of the 25th Division, 1st Battalion/ 14th Infantry Regiment Golden Dragons. He was a radio operator and drove for the Colonel.

He was a member of the Fraternal order of Eagles #302, American Legion Post #29, Veterans of Foreign Wars #1058, and the Moose Lodge #867, all of Zanesville. He was also a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, where his grandfather, H.B. Simmons was one of the Founders in the late 1800’s.

Frank married Donna Mae Strauss on October 10, 1954, in which they had four children. They enjoyed taking the kids on family vacations, whether it be Florida or Washington D.C. Frank loved boating, fishing, and hunting, rarely ever missing a turkey season. His love for boating, hunting, and fishing have most certainly been passed on to his kids and grandkids. Frank loved visits with his mom, Clyta, every morning until her passing at the age of 103. He loved meeting with his friends for morning coffee, drinking a beer at one of his favorite local clubs, music, dancing, and a good football game.

He is survived by his children, Rick (Cindy) Blaney, Michelle (Jay) Jones, Richard (Martha) Blaney, Vickie (John Callow) Anderson; brother, Robert “Oscar” Blaney; grandchildren, Chris (Courtney) Blaney, Nick (Akira Markham) Blaney, Jordan Blaney, Dakota (Natalie Bender) Jones, Spencer Blaney, Taylor (Katie) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Weston, Luke, Lily, and Leo Blaney; Caiden, Dylan, and Lane Anderson; brother-in-law, Elbert “Bunk” Strauss; nieces, nephews, and good friends, that knew him by Blue and Big Daddy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Donna; his brother, Christy “Lefty” Blaney of Marion; infant brother, Donald Blaney of Zanesville; sister, Majorie (Blaney) Bosch of Lancaster; good friends, Kenneth Berwinkle, George Marshall, Ray McHenry, and Dan Allen.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 27, 2022, from 2:00 PM -4:00 PM at the First Christian Church at 3000 Dresden Rd. Zanesville, Ohio. Services will be held the same day, following visitation at 4:00 PM at the First Christian Church with Rev. Laureen A. Roe and Pastor Geoff Geyer. Full military honors will be presented by the United States Army in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Genesis Hospice. The Blaney family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Morrison House for their care, kindness, and compassion.
