George Hiotis
News Director

George is the News Director of the WHIZ Media Group. He also co-anchors the 6:00PM news on WHIZ-TV and anchors daily news updates on AM1240 and Z92 radio stations.

George has been working at the station since 1981 and started as a general assignment reporter. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s degree in communications. When not at work you can find George playing golf during the mornings on weekends and watching the Reds and Bengals win championships.

Carolyn Fleegle
Evening News Anchor

After leaving the news business for six years to start a family, Carolyn Haley-Fleegle returned to WHIZ-TV in April, 2006 to anchor LIVE AT NOON. She also co-anchors the 6 PM news. Before leaving the station, Carolyn co-anchored the 6 o’clock news and anchored the news at 11 for seven years.

An Ohio native, Carolyn grew up in Kettering, a suburb of Dayton. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio where she obtained a degree in Communications.

While not at work, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her two sons going to the movies, bowling and playing miniature golf.

Nichole Hannahs
News Reporter

Nichole Hannahs is a native to Southeastern Ohio growing up in Perry County in the Village of Corning. She’s also a proud graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School.

Nichole joined WHIZ in 2000 as an intern before joining the staff full-time as a photojournalist and sports reporter in 2005. She now works as a multi-platform journalist working in both radio and television. You can hear her every morning from 6:00-8:30 a.m. on AM 1240, Z92.7 and Highway 103.7.

Nichole graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Waynesburg College, emphasizing in Sports Broadcasting/Sports Information and Journalism. As a student at Waynesburg, Nichole held the position of Sports Director for WCYJ-FM, calling Yellow Jacket basketball games and high school football. She also was a sports anchor for a weekly newscast on WC-TV and a contributing reporter to the Waynesburg College Yellow Jacket newspaper.

Nichole chose broadcasting because of her love of community and learning what is important to the people of Southeastern Ohio. She’s always looking for a good story.

When she’s not working you can find Nichole at various sporting events, especially if hockey is involved. She also enjoys hiking at Blackhand Gorge with her husband, Brandon.

Alex King
News Reporter

    Alex King joined the WHIZ team in August 2018 as a reporter and anchor. From Cincinnati,
Ohio and coming from a production position for two years at FOX19 WXIX.
She has a degree in Electronic Media and Broadcasting from Northern Kentucky University.

Throughout her time at NKU she wrote and put together videos for The Northerner.
She was on the dance team for 3 years until she decided to really focus and pursue her passion of journalism.
In her free time she enjoys working out at the gym, relaxing with some yoga and spending quality time with her family.

Madelyne Watkins
News Reporter

Madelyne Watkins, also known as Maddie, is from Springfield,Ohio and received her degree in Communication – Media Studiesin May 2018 from The University of Akron. She joined the WHIZ team in June 2018 as a Reporter/Anchor.While at UA, Madelyne was a co-host and reporter on their campusnews show – Lights, Camera, Akron and has two Student Emmy’s from when the team won in 2017 and 2018.She interned at WKYC Channel 3 News in Cleveland, Ohio during her last semester of college.During her free time, Madelyne enjoys spending time with her mom, volunteering at the animal shelter and trying to hit the gym.She is excited to begin this journey with the WHIZ community. Jennifer Henry
News Reporter
Jennifer Henry is from the Queen City, Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to joining the WHIZ news team, she worked for NBC affiliates; WLWT News 5 in Cincinnati and KUMV TV in Williston, North Dakota. In her spare time she enjoys going to Reds baseball games, playing her ukulele, and trying new foods. She loves meeting new people and listening to their stories. Matthew Kinchla
News Reporter
Matt was born in March of 1995 in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in Communication in May of 2018. While attending CCU, Matt interned with the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina NBC affiliate WMBF News. He gathered great experience from their news crew and is excited to be using it for WHIZ. It was difficult for Matt to move away from Massachusetts, but he knows he has a great opportunity at WHIZ to start his career. During his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, watching Boston sports, fishing, golfing and listening to country music. Matt is really excited to be starting his career in Zanesville, Ohio and looks forward to getting out in the community and getting to meet and talk with new people.
