Woman rescued from house fire in Newark

NEWARK, Ohio–Authorities said a woman is in critical condition following a morning house fire in Newark.

The fire broke out shortly before 6:00 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Meadowbrook Drive.

According to a press release, when firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire throughout the residence.

Officials said a male resident managed to escape the burning home. However, a female resident was trapped inside the home and had to be rescued by firefighters .

She was flown by medical helicopter to a Columbus hospital .

Officials said it’s unknown if the home had working smoke detectors at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
