Longtime Volunteers Thinking Retirement

Local News Stories

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County is a place where local charities are needed and thanks to the selfless generosity from a handful of volunteers, many of these programs successfully benefit those in need.

Kevin and Suzanne Dooley have supported the Catholic Social Services organization for over 20 years by catering to their annual golf scramble and baking pumpkin spice cookies for their annual cookie sale. The Dooleys have also provided lunches for daycare children and Kevin shared how generosity plays a major role in their lives.

“Number one, it makes us feel good and number two, we know it’s benefiting other people,” Dooley said. “I’m one of five kids, my wife’s an only child but we were raised, our parents were Depression-era parents and they instilled in us the fact that you have to help others in order to have a decent life, and that’s what we try to do.”

Since the lease to their Market Street diner ended and supply chain issues have arisen, the Dooleys have scrambled to find the means to serve others and have decided it might be time to take a step back.

Catholic Social Services Regional Director Dave Desender says his program supports disabled and elderly folks who struggle with keeping their utilities paid and expressed how much the Dooleys contributions mean to the program.

“Well I’d like to just thank the Dooleys,” Desender said. “They’ve been such a Godsend for our agency. They’re very special people and over the years they’ve helped with the success of our program. And we’re just truly appreciative for everything they’ve done for us.”

The Pumpkin Spice cookie sale has concluded for 2022 but to find more information about the Catholic Social Services agency you can visit colscss.org or call Desender at (740) 452-5057 Ext.102.
