House Fire on Airport Road Causes Roof to Cave

Local News

The roof to a home caught fire and caved in on Airport Road in Zanesville, Ohio.

About five fire departments were on the scene of the fire, which included Zanesville, New Concord, Perry, Wayne and Washington township.

Shilo West, fire chief with Perry Township Fire Department, said the owner was home when the fire started, but soon made an exit once he saw smoke coming from the eaves.

“We got a call of smoke showing in a residential structure. As we arrived on scene everybody was evacuated from the home. It was just a single family home immediately after arriving on scene there were flames showing,” West said. “We quickly got it put out with five fire departments on scene right now, but the Red Cross has been called to come in and help the family if need be.”

West said there were no injuries and it’s most likely the fire started in the attic.

However, there is no direct cause at the moment as the fire is still under investigation.
