GAME #1: HEATH BULLDOGS VS. TRIWAY TITANS

AKRON, OH- It was a gloomy day in Akron for the OHSAA Division II Softball Final Four. But, that did not stop the Heath Bulldogs and the Triway Titans from shining on the diamond. With a trip to the state title game on the line, this was a huge game for both teams.

Fans from both squads filled Firestone Stadium, hoping to see their team advance to the state final.

It was the Titans striking first as Haylee Pruitt hit a hard line drive down the third base line just past the outstretched glove of Kaitlynn Jardine and Triway would get on the base paths early on.

Then, the Titans would capitalize as Clowie Flinner’s ground ball was bobbled by Heath and Katie Hoffa crossed home plate to give Triway the 1-0 lead.

In the same inning, Triway’s Carter Wachtel puts this one over the head of Bulldogs outfielder Savannah Lawson out in center field. This one would go all the way to the wall and knock in two runs for Triway as they took a commanding 3-0 lead.

Bulldogs looked to respond, but Wachtel fanned Sydney Chapman for out number three. The sophomore pitcher was making plays on both sides of the ball in this one.

Heath would come back with a strikeout of their own as Chapman got Emma Flinner out for strike three. Bulldogs doing a good job of keeping the number-one seeded team in check.

Fast forward to the next inning. Bulldogs looked to spark a comeback and they would begin their comeback as Emma Ghiloni hit a hard line drive to Flinner, who knocked it down. But, her throw was off and Ghiloni would capitalize by advancing to second base. Big play for Heath as the Bulldogs were in scoring position and they look to cut into the lead.

Jardine skied this pop fly into left field and Ghiloni tried to tag up. But, Titans outfielder Shelby Moore threw her out at home from foul territory for the huge out.

Last opportunity for the Bulldogs as they kept the door open, but it would be Wachtel slamming it shut as she picked up her 15th strikeout of the game to end this one as Heath fell to #1 Triway 3-0 in the OHSAA Division II Softball state semifinals.

The Heath Bulldogs finished their season with a 23-6 overall record.

GAME #2: NEWARK CATHOLIC GREEN WAVE VS. LUCASVILLE VALLEY

LANCASTER, OH- It was perfect weather for baseball and the Newark Catholic Green Wave took full advantage. Even though they were playing the number one team in their bracket in Lucasville Valley that didn’t shake their confidence.

The Green Wave jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after two doubles to start the ball game. After giving themselves a solid lead the defense made a stance and didn’t surrender anything for 6 innings.

Newark Catholic would start to heat back up again at the plate later on when Grant Moore hit it right past the short stop and into the outfield to bring in another run making it 5-0 while later on after a bad pitch they would also be able to steal home making it 6-0 with only one inning to go.

Last inning after a double play by Anthony Dry, Lucasville Valley finally got on the board but it was too little too late and Newark Catholic caught a pop fly for out three, which would give them the win to advance them to the Regional Final.
