Local Sports Sports

PICKERINGTON, OH- It was a great day for some softball and the John Glenn Muskies and Sheridan Generals gave us a show down for the ages. John Glenn would start to heat up at the plate starting with Hannah Bendle, she knocked one deep into right field and that thing was gone over the fences to put the Muskies on the board to make it 1-0.

Pitcher Sydney Marshall would also make plays at the mound and at the plate and she crushed the first pitch she got and that one is back and gone two run home run to make it 3-0 John Glenn.

Sheridan center fielder Cate Conrad would give the Generals some momentum and she destroys one back to center field over the fences for a two run home run to put the Generals on the score board to make it 4-2.

But it wasn’t enough in this one as Marshall finishes things off with strike number three and the John Glenn Scotties get the win and advance to play Heath for the Regional Championship on Saturday.

CADIZ, OH- The Meadowbrook Colts were in action on the baseball diamond as they looked to advance in the postseason against the Steubenville Big Red.

Fast forward to the fourth inning, Steubenville up 2-0 looking to add to their lead. But, they would be denied as Brady McManaway made a heads-up play in the field and threw it home to tag out the Steubenville runner.

The Big Red would get that one back as they hit this one right under the glove of Easton Eibel that would bring in the runner from third and the Steubenville runner from second would come home just in time to give the Big Red a 4-0 lead.

Steubenville hit one into right field but Meadowbrook’s defense would come up big as the right fielder launches this one right into the glove of the catcher to throw the runner out. What a play by Meadowbrook! Stuebenville not taking their foot off the gas pedal as they hit a pop fly out to right field. But, it’s misplayed by the Colts. That would knock in another run as Meadowbrook now trails by 5.

Colts still on defense and the Big Red aren’t going away this inning. Steubenville would hit one all the way out to the warning track and that would bring in two runs. The Big Red with the big lead, now up 7-0. Meadowbrook would get out of the inning and back to the plate when Eibel would field a grounder on the run and get it to Austin Fox for the third out.

Colts looking to cut into the lead. The pitcher fans Fox but Aiden Reis would steal second base to get into scoring position. Meadowbrook not able to capitalize but the defense continued to make big plays, preventing the Big Red from increasing their lead.

Meadowbrook looking to spark a comeback and Josh Hupp hit one just past the reach of the fielder and he’d stretch it into a double. Nice hit by the senior as the Colts get into scoring position. Last chance for Meadowbrook. Eibel hits one out to center field but it’s caught and Steubenville would go on to defeat the Colts 7-0 and eliminate them from the playoffs.
