GAME #1: JOHN GLENN MUSKIES VS. MORGAN RAIDERS

PHILO, OH- We had ourselves an exciting softball playoff game between the John Glenn Muskies and the Morgan Raiders in a battle between two Muskingum Valley League teams.

Early on, it was a pitchers duel at Philo. Sydney Marshall of John Glenn and Malayni Clemons of Morgan traded strikeouts throughout the early part of the game. Both teams were looking for offense.

Shortly after, Clemons puts a ball into play but Sydney Johnson came in with the diving catch. What a play for the Muskies as they get out of the inning!

John Glenn looking to get on base and they’d do so with a big hit from Brynna Wolford. The ball sailed over the head of the outfielder all the way to the fence and she turned on the jets for a triple.

Then, Morgan overthrew the third baseman and Wolford tried to go home. But, she gets caught in a little bit of a pickle and goes back to third. Great play by the senior and it was a big momentum shifter for John Glenn. She’d score on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Muskies.

Later in the inning, Hannah Bendle put a ball deep left field just over the outstretched glove of the Raiders outfielder for a double. Muskies starting to pull away here.

Raiders looking to get out of the inning but they would end up walking the Muskies batter with the bases loaded, increasing the John Glenn lead.

Later on, Alivia Boothe connected on a base hit up the middle for John Glenn and that would bring in Abby Buchtel to make it a 3-0 Muskies lead.

Morgan trying to spark a comeback. Blair Clawson hit a line drive deep s into the outfield gap and would stretch this hit into a big-time triple. Huge play for the Raiders as they look to get back into this game. What a hit by the freshman catcher and she is fired up!

But, it would be Marshall getting the final out with the strikeout and the Muskies would go on to win the district title as they defeat Morgan 4-0 and will advance to the next round.

GAME #2: SHERIDAN GENERALS VS. ATHENS BULLDOGS

ATHENS, OH- It was great weather and the Sheridan Generals and Athens Bulldogs took full advantage of the weather in this instant classic District Title battle. First inning Olivia Banks hit one deep into the gap of center and left field and this one goes all the way to the warning track to give Banks a double to start things off.

The Bulldogs would go on to take the lead 1-0 but the Generals would come right back with their next at bat. Payton Powell would hit a floater right over the infield and it dropped right in the gap to bring in two base runners to put the Generals up 2-1 in the first inning.

We skip to the 6th inning and it’s Banks at the plate again and she crushes this one deep and it’s gone it was a three run homerun to tie it up 4-4. Later on same inning Ashleigh James hits one to the wall and she would bring in two more runners to give Athens the lead 6-4.

Now for the biggest play of the day it was Powell and she hits it to the outfield and the center fielder couldn’t quite make the play it got past her and all the base runners turn on the jets this would be a walk off double for the Generals as they win it 7-6 over the Bulldogs for the district title.
