Local Sports Sports

PHILO, OH- It was a big day in our area for playoff baseball as plenty of our local teams were in action. It was the Philo Electrics and the Meadowbrook Colts in a matchup between Muskingum Valley League teams looking to advance.

Early on, it was Griffin Wells getting the offense started with a nice base hit for Philo. He would come in to score the first run of the game to make it a 1-0 Electrics lead.

Meadowbrook looking to respond and they would come up with a big hit into right field that was misplayed by the Philo outfielder. That hit would bring in two runs to put the road team out in front.

Colts still on offense and they would continue applying pressure as Damen Launder put one right up the middle for the base hit. Meadowbrook bats really stepping up in this inning.

Philo looking to get out of the jam, but a balk is called on the Electrics pitcher. That would advance all runners on the base paths and Kolton St. Clair would come across home plate for another Colts run to add onto their lead.

Meadowbrook not taking their foot off the gas. Nice bunt by the Colts and it was misplayed by Philo as the throw goes past the first baseman. Meadowbrook would take advantage and score another run to make it 5-1 road team lead.

Philo trying to cut into the lead and Wells hits a grounder to Colts shortstop Easton Eibel. He fields it but the throw sails over the first baseman’s head. The Electrics look to advance to second base but what a recovery by Meadowbrook to get him out! Big time hustle play by the Colts.

Philo would cut into the lead, but it wouldn’t be enough as Meadowbrook shocks the Electrics 5-4.

Game 2: Tri-Valley falls to West Holmes

DRESDEN, OH- First inning Brady Smith started things off and he hit it right down the third base line to get on for a single for West Holmes. After some quick outs in the bottom of the first Hansel Holmes hit it to third base and it would be a error to get Holmes on first.

Robbie Fendrick was up later and he hit one right over the infield to advance the bases to keep the momentum going for the Scotties. Bases were then loaded and West Holmes needed a out and Noah Clark gets a much needed strike out for out three.

This game would be tight to the very end with both defenses making plays but West Holmes would capitalize in some key moments to pull out the victory 4-0.
