ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System provides many educational programs throughout the year that cater to a variety of interests and skills. Friday, the John McIntire Library will be hosting their Home Schoolers Explore event that introduces kids to coding and what technology can accomplish.
MCLS Customer Service Associate Rachel Archeron details the Coding with Sphero program and how it benefits the kids.
“It’s for homeschooling students and it’s going to be teaching coding with these little sphero-robot balls. They’re going to teach them to kind of roll around and follow different pathways,” Archeron said.
The spheres are filled with little motors that link to a cell phone via an app that lets the students control the movement of the spheres. The event, aimed at homeschoolers, will take place between 11 a.m. and noon, Friday, May 20.
“Homeschool students don’t get a lot of opportunities in the classroom to learn different things that other kids are learning because most parents wouldn’t have access to something like this. So they will get an opportunity to interact with things that they wouldn’t normally,” Archeron said.
