WHIZ Sports 5-12: Ceramics Softball Claim Sectional Title

Local Sports Sports

CROOKSVILLE, OH- Sometimes the best games on the diamond are the low-scoring ones. That was the case in Crooksville as the Ceramics Softball Team hosted the Fairland Dragons in the Sectional Title game.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on in this one. Crooksville’s McKenna Headley dials in the pitch and fans the batter for strike three to get her team out of the inning. On the other side, the Fairland pitcher catches Brynn Lundell window shopping for the strikeout. Very strong pitching from both sides in this one.

Dragons looking to get on base and they hit high pop fly goes out to right field. But, the Ceramics outfielder can’t come up with it and Fairland would have a runner on first base. Crooksville would get out of the jam without allowing a run.

Shortly after, Jailynn Theisen would put down the bunt and switch on the jets. She flies down the line and beats out the throw in what was a huge play for Crooksville!

Then it would be Headley coming up big at the plate as she hit a deep line drive that would bounce all the way to the fence for an RBI single for the Ceramics to give them a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Later in the inning, Grace Frame hits a ground ball to the shortstop but it is bobbled by Fairland. She’d be safe at first and Sonni Nelson would score from third to make it a 2-0 Ceramics lead.

Last chance for Fairland to make a comeback in the seventh inning and they put the ball in play, but the pop fly goes up to right field and it would be caught by Theisen.

With that, the Crooksville Ceramics would come out on top over Fairland to win the sectional title in a thriller! They’ll go on to face off against #3 Wellston in the District Semi-Finals on Monday at Unioto High School
