Rambo Free Air Conditioner Program

Local News Stories

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The weather begins to warm this week and as we near the summer it will continue to get even warmer.

Each May Rambo Memorial Health opens their free air conditioner program. To qualify there are income guidelines, you must also have proof of income and a prescription from your doctor saying what your respiratory diagnosis is and that you could benefit from the use of an air conditioner. Sleep Apnea is not recognized as a respiratory disorder by Rambo.

“They can’t always afford air conditioning and it’s important for those people to have an air conditioner. You don’t want your windows to be up and have all the environment allergies that are coming in, the dust and allergens and also you don’t want that humidity to rise that’s going to produce mold, all of those things are triggers for people for those with respiratory problems,” said Rambo Executive Director Shannon Bell.

Around 92-100 air conditioners will be provided to those in Muskingum County. If approved Rambo will provide you with a voucher for a room size air conditioner.

“If you come in here. It takes about 15 minutes to get all your paperwork filled out and then you go straight to Home Depot and get your air conditioner. It can all be done within an hour,” said Bell.

Bell said if you’ve had an air conditioner from Rambo or Community Action in the last three years you don’t qualify for this program. She also reminds parents of children with respiratory disorders that they also qualify. To fill out paperwork and get your voucher you can stop in to Rambo Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm.
