ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This Saturday the Muskingum County Library System will be partnering with the Muskingum County Literacy Council to present the Family Reading Festival at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville. The event titled ‘Reading is My Super Power!’ will offer hands-on activities and crafts for all ages that will promote literacy and bring stories and characters to life.
Muskingum County Literacy Council Community Liaison Cindy Lawyer and Muskingum County Library System Outreach Services Manager Beth Brown explain the purpose of the event and what attendees can expect.
“Its main function is to really promote literacy, family literacy. Children as well as adults,” Lawyer said. “Well literacy is really important and I think it’s really the main vision for both of our organizations. So it is a great collaboration. I don’t know, I’m sure we couldn’t have pulled this off without the library’s support.”
The event that features superheroes will utilize the whole library by setting up stations with various activities and themes that will promote literacy.
“If you come to the Family Reading Festival at the library you can expect to have big fun with superheroes, book characters,” Brown said. “We have over 50 businesses, agencies and groups coming. We’re going to have live animals, we’ll have superheroes running around and adults, there will be adult activities. Free books for everyone. Just a big day of fun.”
The event will be from 11 to 3 this Saturday at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville. For more information you can visit the events page at muskingumlibrary.org.
