ZANESVILLE, OH- We caught up with one local high school gymnast who is looking to bring home some big-time hardware.
Ady Wahl, who trains at Zanesville Gymnastics, has had an amazing season and is looking to cap it off with a National Championship.
The sophomore recently competed in the Region 5 Level 10 Championships in Chicago where she won the Senior B Division All-Around Title to clinch a spot in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships.
At the event, she also placed third in the Floor Event and Bars while coming in sixth place in the Beam portion of the competition.
Wahl spoke about the preparation it took to get to Regionals and how it felt winning such a big competition.
“That was honestly really shocking just because I knew I had put the work in and I was prepared to do it and I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would ever win a competition like that. But, just getting up there and winning and I was like all glory to God because that was such a God thing. Yeah, it was awesome,” said Wahl.
“Really when we get to regionals our goal was to just make it to Nationals and then we’re there and she wins and it’s just great,” added her coach Mallory Gardner.
Now after picking up a big win at Regionals, Wahl says she is excited to compete at the National Championships while continuing to work hard.
“I’m so excited. I think I’m more excited that I am nervous, so that’s good. Going into it…I’m just like you know whatever happens, happens and I’m just still working in the gym and doing as much as I can into it but I’m super excited,” Wahl said.
The USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships will be taking place in Mesa, Arizona from May 12th-15th.
