Shrooming and Composting

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System often holds presentations that can educate attendees and benefit their way of life.

Muskingum County Library System’s Adult Services Member Scott Horst discussed the upcoming Mushroom Hunting Talk and Walk.

“That is coming up on Saturday April 23, here at Ohio University Zanesville’s Rogge Pavilion. The library is hosting it. Our leader is Walt Sturgeon. He’s a member of the Ohio Mushroom Society and will be promoting his book, ‘Appalachian Mushrooms’ at the program. Then after a short talk we are going to go looking for mushrooms out on the Collegial Trail,” Horst said.

The library offers basic indoor lectures but also tries to create events that are hands-on and outdoors.

“On Saturday, April 30, we have a Composting for Beginners program that’s going to be here at the library. It’s going to be hosted by Allie Murphy of the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District and it’s going to teach you about composting,” Horst said. “You can compost in a little area or a large area, it’s up to you and there’s a variety of materials you can use to compost. But you do have to be selective on what you compost with.”

Horst noted the programs are free to attend but people must register to participate by calling the library at (740) 453-0391 Extension 116 or online.
