ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Aged water lines on Newark road get an upgrade from the City of Zanesville.
The installation replacement will be taking place between Ohio University and Zane State campus just west of Musselman Drive.
Mayor of Zanesville, Don Mason, says the reason for this replacement is due to old lines, but it also gives them the opportunity to do more things for that area.
“One thing we’re trying to do in Zanesville is replace a lot of the old two inch water mains which in this case is a six inch water main. On a two inch water main you’re not really able to have fire hydrants because you just don’t have that kind of pressure so on Newark Road we’re replacing a two inch old main with a six inch new main,” Mayor Mason stated.
The project is being conducted by Hazen Services, a local company, and will add eight fire hydrants.
Mayor Mason hopes this replacement will allow future development in the Falls Townships area.
“That allows for more growth either as residential or as small businesses in that area and again we run part of our water company inside the city limits and part of the water company is outside. this is a way of serving those who are right now living in Falls Township,” Mayor Mason said.
This is a 45 day project and traffic will be restricted to a single lane alternating with flaggers on the weekdays between 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Mayor Mason is hoping for residents to stay patient and encourages those to use caution and alternative routes if possible.
