UPDATE: Police Situation in Newark

UPDATE(1:56 p.m.): The Newark Police Department said the situation in the area of Prospect Street and Gainor Avenue has been contained and it is safe to return to the area. Authorities said they will release more details about the incident Wednesday.

The Newark Police Department is asking the public to avoid an area of the city due to an on-going police situation.

Authorities are advising to stay away from the area of Prospect Street and Gainor Avenue. Traffic on National Road (SR 13) between Hopewell Drive and downtown may be restricted at times.
