MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio – The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation is hosting its second ‘You Matter 5k’ Run!

The event will be held on Sunday, May 1st at the Collegial Woods Trail at noon, with a brief welcome ceremony preceding it at 11:45.

The event is for anyone who wants to get a healthy walk or run in while supporting a great cause.

Christy Rahrig, the Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation Advisor, let us know the event is an effort to bring awareness to mental health issues.

She told us, “Whether or not people are open with their struggles that there is somewhere that they can reach out to, and that’s how the 5k came to be as a partnership between the Community Youth Foundation and I Am a Warrior Against Suicide.”

The proceeds from the 5k will be split with ‘I Am A Warrior Against Suicide,’so that they can spread awareness and post more signs around Muskingum County with their crisis hotline number.

People of all ages and sizes are urged to participate. About 50 runners participated last year, and CYF is hoping to attract even more people this year.

Christy says, “getting people to come together and just having a good time, whether not you want to compete for your PR or if you just want to walk it cause you know that its benefiting a good cause.”

The cost for the event is $25 until April 14th, and $30 until the day of the event. To register, go to muskingummultisports.com and look for the ‘Blue Shoe’ icon.
