Interstate 70 Delays Possible Friday

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Motorists traveling along Interstate 70 through Zanesville this Friday will likely experience added delays in their commute due to some much needed safety improvements.

Ohio Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Morgan Overbey describes some of the reasons drivers may experience delays.

“Originally, the contractor was going to be doing some centerline striping on Wednesday, March 8, but due to the weather, that work has been changed to Friday, March 11,” Overbey said. “So what motorists can expect, there are going to be lane closures in both directions for that centerline striping on Friday.”

The Westbound driving lane and ramps will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Eastbound driving lane and ramps will be closed from 1 to 5 p.m. There is a chance there could be some overlap of the ramp closures cue to the drying time of the paint.

“The State Route 93 interchange to the East as well as the U.S. 40, Exit 152 interchange to the West, those will not be impacted, so we do expect motorists to use those on Friday,” Overbey said.

Many have expressed concern about the lack of striping in the construction zone but due to the cold weather and lack of cold temperature paint the crews are forced to paint during a specific temperature range. A full work zone restriping is planned later in the year.
