WHIZ Sports 2-19: Bishop Rosecrans and Philo Win Sectional Titles; Maysville Moves On

GAME #1: BISHOP ROSECRANS BISHOPS VS. STEUBENVILLE CATHOLIC CENTRAL CRUSADERS

ZANESVILLE, OH- Our first game took place earlier in the afternoon as the Bishop Rosecrans Bishops hosted the Steubenville Catholic Crusaders in a sectional finals matchup.

The Bishops started off the game strong with an 8-0 run and used their ball movement and defense to limit scoring chances for the Crusaders. Jenna and Makeala McLaughlin played a big part in shutting down the Crusaders, as they blocked numerous shots and altered passes all game.

Bishop Rosecrans took control of this game early on and held off a first-half comeback attempt by Steubenville Catholic as they took an 11 point lead into halftime thanks to an Alaina Berry three-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Bishop Rosecrans would go on to win 58-39 and add take home the sectional title. Jenna Carlisle led the Bishops with 21 points in the win.

GAME #2: PHILO ELECTRICS VS. BEAVER LOCAL BEAVERS

PHILO, OH- Our next stop took us to The Power Plant as the Philo Electrics took on the Beaver Local Beavers in a matchup with the sectional title up for grabs.

The Beavers got on the board first and jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but it was all Electrics after that.

Philo forced turnovers throughout the first half thanks to their tough defense while they outpaced the Beavers on offense, which allowed them to score at ease.

The Electrics were up 28 points and limited Beaver Local to just five points in the first half and Philo would go on to win the sectional title 51-14.

GAME #3: MAYSVILLE PANTHERS VS. STEUBENVILLE BIG RED

ZANESVILLE, OH- For our last game we had some local boys basketball at Maysville High School, where the Panthers took on Steubenville.

The Panthers opened up hot from 3 point range as they knocked down their first couple 3 pointers to start a 6-0 run to begin the game.

Big Red would respond and make this a tight game as they made a last second shot to end the first quarter to make it a 2 point game.

This game would stay close up until the final quarter where Maysville then took control and defeated Steubenville 55-40
