MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- Christmas is right around the corner and the Muskingum Valley Garden Society is taking acting by decorating planters throughout downtown Zanesville.
Beth Brown, President of MV Garden Society, said the organization has been doing this for over 15 years now.
“We use three different type of greens in our planters and we put in some willow in our planters. We’ve gotten together a view times to get all the ribbon and balls and bows ready for the planters. So we have several hours that we put into making the downtown decorations work,” Brown Stated.
Florafino’s Flower Market has been a huge help to the society when it comes to providing the greenery and most of the ribbon and other decorations come from one of the members, Ann, who gathers and saves all the discounted decorations at the end of the year so it can be used by the society the following year.
She also says once all the planters are decorated and set, it really brings a holiday cheer atmosphere to the downtown area.
“It really does bring a lot of people together Our group has an active membership of about 30 people who come out and can always count on those 30 people and everyone feels that it brings pride not only to themselves, but to the community,” Brown said. “So many people would stop while we’re working downtown and they will just say ‘thank you so much for what you’re doing,’ and that in itself is very humbling and makes us feel really good that we can be such a service to our community.”
The MV Garden Society always make sure that the decorated planters are done the weekend after Thanksgiving so everything is ready for the holiday festivities. For more information, please visit the webpage at mvgardensociety.org.
