Local News

Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury says two people are in custody in connection with a fatal Friday night shooting. It happened around 7:30 at the Dairy Mart at 714 Pine Street.

Coury says when officers arrived on the scene they found one male victim, 20-year-old Tyrel Saunders, who was later pronounced dead at Genesis Hospital.

Chief Coury says officers, with help from the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, went to 904 Nancy Avenue and were able to get the two suspects to exit the residence and surrender to police. He says it took two hours to make the arrests. No other details are being released.

Detectives will be meeting with the Muskingum County Prosecutor to determine formal charges.
