The South Zanesville Fire Department hosted its 60th annual chicken BBQ fundraiser.
Tickets were sold for $10 each which included grilled chicken, apple sauce and cold slaw. The chicken was cooked by the Zanesville Boosters. 1400 pieces of chicken went on the grill at 6:30 a.m. and approximately 600 dinners were sold within the first 45 minutes.
“The money we raise here today we’ll use through the club to buy some equipment for the station. We also help some of the schools with different projects they have. We just give back to the community that gives to us,” said Fire Chief Russell Taylor.
Patrons lined up at the Fire Department to pick up their meal. They were able to stay and eat with other members of the community and the Fire Department.
“We’ve come here a few times, the last two or three years. Obviously we couldn’t come last year due to the whole Covid thing, but today to come out, it looks like the turnout is great….Oh, it’s lovely, man. They’re keeping up real good, line’s moving real quick, and everyone’s having a good time,” said one patron, Steven Sehesky.
The proceeds from the fundraiser went to benefit the fire department and other aspects of the community.
