NEWARK – Newark Police said an arrest has been made in connection to a fatal assault.
Police said 32-year-old Zacharie Nelson is facing murder charges in the death of 50-year-old John Mason of Newark .
Investigators said on November 18, at about 5:40 a.m., Newark police officers were dispatched to an apartment located at 404 N. Cedar St. on an assault. Upon arrival officers located Mason with possible head trauma.
Police said Mason was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Grant Hospital in Columbus where he passed away on Tuesday, November 24th from his injuries.
Police said Nelson, who recently moved to Newark from Florida, was located at the Muskingum County Jail after being arrested November 18th on unrelated charges and an outstanding warrant out of Heath PD.
Newark detectives said Nelson was interviewed and admitted to his involvement in the incident.
Nelson is being held in the Licking County Justice Center.
