One local organization was left searching for a way to make up lost funding after having to cancel their biggest fundraiser of the year.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville was unable to hold their annual Buckeye pep rally due to the COVID pandemic.
In order to make up for the for the loss of the much needed revenue they created the first annual Big Day of Giving virtual auction, which took place today.
The response from the community to the new fundraiser was greater than they could have imagined.
“It was just nice to see even though everybody is going through really hard times right now, the community come together, step-up, provide donations for auction items, and then provide monetary support as well for our event,” said Katie Mainini, executive director.
All of the funding raised today from the auction will go toward furthering the organization’s many programs.
“This fundraiser will generate revenue which will be put to really good use. This will just continue our work to continue our mentorship programs. We have a new pen pals program right now and we’re really trying to get some more volunteers to get involved with that, because that’s another pivot that we’ve had to make in these really unusual, unprecedented times.”
If you are interested in becoming a pen pal you can contact Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville at (740) 453-7300.
Today’s virtual auction raised more than $24,000.
