The Veterans Appreciation Foundation Plans Veterans Day Drive By Salute

Local News

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Veterans Appreciation Foundation is sponsoring and organizing a Veterans Day Drive By Salute.

The event comes as The Veterans Appreciation Foundation has had to cancel many of their annual Veterans Day events.

“Because of the Corona Virus obviously we’ve postponed our Veterans Parade. We’ve postponed our Veterans Breakfast, we’ve postponed our Veterans Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, we’re limited. One thing we’ve been passionate about is getting in to our nursing homes on Veterans Weekend and Christmas to see our old veterans, who are many times forgotten. Now it’s even worse. We’ve had veterans who have not been visited since February, and we still can’t get in to see them,” President of The Veterans Appreciation Foundation Wayne Clark said.

Along with the drive by, The Veterans Appreciation Foundation is providing tee-shirts and door signs for all 125 veterans at the ten participating nursing homes. Clark encourages community participation in the event.

“Drive through those nursing homes. Wave at them, honk your horn, have a sign and balloons. Anything, have your kids wave at them. We’re having the police go through, the fire department’s going to go through, the Junior ROTC program at Zanesville High School is going to post colors at the main window of each nursing home. We’re trying to do as much as we can to give those people a feeling that people are still remembering them and care about them. Especially this Veterans Weekend when we can’t get in to see them.”

The Drive By Salute is planned for Saturday November 7th from 1 to 3 PM. If you would like more information on the Drive By Salute you can contact Mr. Clark at (740) 607-5294.
