Village Mourns Loss of Former long-time Police Chief

NEW CONCORD – Ed Stewart served as the Chief of Police for the New Concord Police Department from 1985 until 2002. He passed away earlier this week.

“The community has lost a dedicated public servant who was very passionate and committed to the village that he lived in and worked in for over two decades,” Mayor of New Concord Jennifer Lyle said.

Lyle said during his tenure, Stewart helped ingrain a hardworking attitude. This is something the department uses everyday.

“Our police department has an excellent relationship with out residents and a really, really strong relationship with Muskingum University which I have the upmost confidence in a positive continuing relationship with our police department,” Lyle said.

Stewart leaves behind his wife, Jill, and son, Jordan.
