ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Columbia Gas is raising awareness for what it calls 8-1-1 Day.

8-1-1 is the phone number to call before digging on your property. The dangers of digging without safety checking include downing power and telephone lines as well as bursting gas pipes

“8-1-1 Day is one of our favorite days of the year. Because it reminds people that if you’re gonna use this, you gotta call in advance. Give a call to 8-1-1 or you can go to and let them know two days in advance before your digging project to stay safe. 8-1-1 Day is all about staying safe,” explained Communications Manger David Rau.

Rau also stated that Columbia Gas is still offering payment assistance programs.

”We’re offering payment help for people who need it. If you are income qualified there are assistance plans. You can also get on a payment plan very easily,” said Rau. “You can do it if you go on our website or right on your bill you can sign up. It’s very easy so we really encourage anybody who’s having problems paying their utility bills to give us a call or go to our website.”

The payment plan is open to all who lost their jobs due to the COVID pandemic.
