July Artist of the Month

Local News

ZANESVILLE, OH – The First Friday Art Walk is resuming this Friday in downtown Zanesville.

The Artist Colony of Zanesville has announced April Lentz as the Artist of the Month. When asked what Artist of the Month means to her, Lentz got a bit emotional.

“Well deep down there’s something I can’t even express, It’s been a little overwhelming for me. Just knowing that… it’s gonna make me even tear up, just knowing that a local, like this art colony sees what I do as an art and not just as an essential service, which is what soap is, but sees the art that I put into making it, it’s awesome, it means a lot.”

Lentz primarily makes soaps, but has branched out to other products such as bath bombs, body butters, wax melts, and candles. The art is in the spin she puts on her products.

“Art in soap is just the artistry of the old fashioned soap making. So making with natural oils, water, and lye, lye from any form, sometimes people get lye from soda ash, I of course buy lye from the store. But this is an old fashioned way of making soap, it’s an art and then I’ve kinda changed it and by adding vibrant colors, wonderful little embeds which are little soaps on top of the big soaps to create fun and fanciful designs for my customers to enjoy and for me honestly just a way to express myself.”

You can find April and her work at Masonic Temple on Friday July 3rd on Fourth Street from 5 pm until 8 pm.
