ZANESVILLE – Executive Director of the Red Cross’ East Central Ohio Chapter, Rod Cook, says that volunteers comprise over 90% of the chapter’s work force. There is a multitude of different tasks volunteers can perform for the Red Cross.
“We are in need of more disaster volunteers and these are the folks that sometimes you might hear about a house fire happening. For some reason, they always happen at night and the Red Cross was called to help the victim. 99.9% of the time its volunteers,” Cook said.
If joining the disaster team is not something you are interested in, the local Red Cross is also in a critical need of support for its blood drives.
“Right now, even with everything going on during the pandemic, we have to make sure that our blood drives are still going on, so, of course, with the virus, we have new screening protocols so we’re looking for blood drive screeners. These are folks that will help screen the potential blood donors as they come to a blood drive,” Cook said.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering can go to the Red Cross’ website or they can call their office.
