Zanesville City School District is looking for new high school principal

Local News

ZANESVILLE – Laura Tompkins announced that she’s leaving her position to become principal at West Muskingum High School. Tompkins is a Zanesville High Alum and served as its principal since 2016. She’s very excited for the move but she has positive memories of ZHS and it will be hard to say goodbye.

“I’ve been a part of Zanesville City Schools my whole life. So, I graduated here in 1988, I’ve taught physical education here, and I’ve moved into administration. I think the diversity in Zanesville City Schools is second to none. I love the enthusiasm of the students and they come from all different areas and when they come together they can do really great things. It’s been wonderful to be here but, unfortunately, I’m ready for a new challenge,” New West Muskingum High School Principal Laura Tompkins said.

Tompkins believes she has the right skill set to excel in her new role which she will begin in August.

“I love to build culture in a school and they are trying to build more culture there and I find that very challenging so I’m excited for a new challenge and going to there to see what we can do as a district there,” Tompkins said.

Zanesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Doug Baker says that they’ve posted the principal position on several website as well as internally. Dr. Baker says they hope to hire for the position soon.
