ZANESVILLE – The Chamber of Commerce, who manages the operation of the Lorena, had some concerns if they would be able to have the boat ready for residents and tourists in 2020 because of conditions brought forth by the pandemic. However, after discussions with the County Health Department, the Lorena will run this year.

“Typically, the first week in June is when we kick off the season but we will be delayed a couple of weeks. We do need to work out some policies and safety procedures so that everyone can have a great experience while they’re on the Lorena sternwheeler. So, we look for the season to start Mid-June and it goes through October,” ZMC Chamber Vice President Kelly Ashby said.

Plans are set in place so people can enjoy a ride on the sternwheeler and feel comfortable about the health conditions being practiced.

“Some of the things that we are going to definitely put in place is very similar to planes; boarding in the back and then, when the cruise is over, departure from the front and going to to the back. That way, folks won’t have to walk by one another and wearing masks, and, definitely we’ve always had cleaning (and) safety procedures in place with regards to the Lorena. So, we’ll just continue to enhance those as well,” Ashby said.

Ashby also says that the Lorena will not be hosting dinner cruises for the first couple of months it is up and running. There will also be no annual civil war reenactment on the boat in 2020.
