ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Vin Ami on Market Street downtown is displaying a new artist this month.
Art Cause chose artist Carol Bridwell. She says she makes rugs and woodwork from mostly salvaged materials.
“My artwork is predominantly weaving and I make things out of wood. All of the materials I use are basically salvaged materials. For my weavings I use new warp but all of the content — the fabric and everything that goes in it is all industrial salvage.”
Bridwell says she was interested in how fabric is made and that’s where her passion came from.
“I’ve always been interested in how fabric is constructed. My grandmother taught me how to crochet — very tiny — doilies and things like that when I was six and that was a challenge for her because I’m left handed. But I was fascinated by the detail you can get into that and make something that you can use.”
She says she encourages people who buy her rugs to use them in their own homes and stains her woodwork with teakwood oil for outdoor use.
