Maysville Pike house fire

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire around 3:30 this afternoon on Maysville Pike.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was engulfed in the back of the structure. Newton Township Fire Department Lieutenant, Wesley Kelly said no one was inside the house during the fire.

“We got called to this residence behind us by a passerby for a structure fire. Upon arrival we had heavy fire in the back of the house. The homeowner was not home at the time. We quickly determined that there was nobody else in the residence. We were able to knock it down, and it is under investigation right now,” Kelly said.

Newton Township was in charge of the scene, with assistance from Zanesville, South Zanesville, and Falls Township. The Muskingum County Sheriffs, Highway Patrol, Community Ambulance, and ValueCare Ambulance also responded to the fire. Kelly believes that the house is a total loss.

“Im going to say yes, there is significant damage at this time.” Kelly added, “The Red Cross is on their way to talk to the occupant.”

Part of Maysville Pike was shut down when crews were fighting the fire. The fire is currently under investigation.
