Zanesville Kiwanis: “You get to see these kids smile”

Local News

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Santa made a stop to visit some good boys and girls Wednesday.

Kiwanis held their annual Christmas party for the kids at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

President of the organization, Matt Harper says children were picked from different schools across the area.

“Today is where we get to see all of our fundraising efforts going back into the community. We get to give some Christmas cheer to 65 kids today — could use a little bit of Christmas cheer. The guidance counselors at the schools get to pick the kids with the need. But there’s — Zanesville, Maysville, Philo, Rosecran and West Muskingum out here today.”

Harper says kids got to eat pizza and cookies with members of the Key Club and Kiwanis before Santa arrived with bags full of gifts.

“This is the most amazing thing that we do throughout the year because it’s — it’s one of those things where you get to see these kids smile and open up a gift and feel good about themselves and to me, that’s one of the most important things.”

There was also special appearances from Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph.

Kiwanis is a nationally recognized group that aims toward helping children. If you would like to join, the Zanesville chapter meets at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Immanual Church of Christ on S. Seventh Street.
