MVL Game of the Week: Tri-Valley vs. Sheridan

Local Sports Sports

THORNVILLE, Ohio – Every year we have the Sheridan-Tri-Valley game circled on our schedule.

Each season the rivalry matchup goes a long way in deciding who wins the league title and who makes the playoffs. And this year is no different.

For the first time since 2011 the Generals come into the game with a better record than the Scotties. Sheridan is 5-1 and has won five straight after dropping their season opener. They are the last team in the MVL without a conference loss.

Coach Paul Culver’s team is coming off a two-point win over Philo. He says this game means a lot to everyone at Sheridan.

“We’re not looking ahead. We’re not worried about league championships or playoff implications. This is Sheridan-Tri-Valley. Quite frankly, if both teams were 0-6 it would still be Sheridan-Tri-Valley which I think makes it special,” said Culver

The Scotties crushed New Lexington last Friday, 73-24. Blake Sands scored seven touchdowns in the victory for TV. At 4-2 they need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Tri-Valley is currently in 13th in Region 11.

Tri-Valley head coach Kevin Fell gives Sheridan’s coaching staff all the credit.

“The thing that really stands out is outstanding coaching. They are an above average football team that is playing great. They’re not a great offensive football team. They are a great defensive football team. But they know how to win games. It’s the kind of team you hate to play,” said Fell.

Last year’s game was an instant classic. The Scotties won 20-19 in a game that went to overtime.

If you can’t make it to Friday night’s game then you can listen on WHIZ 92.7. Greg Mitts and David Kinder have the call from Paul Culver Jr. Stadium at 7.
