TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman whose 5-year-old grandson died in her care is facing murder charges.

Forty-five-year-old Yisenya Flores was arraigned Monday after she was charged in killing and abusing her grandson Anjuan M. Hare III. Her bond was set at $500,000.

Hare died at Toledo Hospital last week after Flores called 911, claiming her grandson had jumped from a mattress and hurt himself.

Hospital doctors told investigators the injuries weren’t consistent with falling.

Flores eventually told police she had hit Hare the day before and that he seemed lethargic and couldn’t get up from the floor.

Lucas County Coroner Dr. Diana Scala Barnett says an autopsy revealed evidence of a history of abuse.

A message seeking comment was left Tuesday for the lawyer appointed to represent Flores.
