THORNIVILLE, Ohio – Week two of the high school football season takes us to Perry County for the Muskingum Valley League Game of the Week.
Sheridan hosts Maysville following a rough start to the season for the MVL. The league went just 2-7 on the first football Friday night of the year.
The Generals fell last week to Licking Valley 21-7. Sheridan scored the game’s first touchdown, but their offense stalled after that. Running back Will Hamilton’s 185 rushing yards stood as the highlight for Sheridan.
Fourth year head coach Paul Culver III took the blame for Friday’s loss
“Our passing percentage was extraordinarily low. We looked ill-prepared. And that ultimately falls on me. That’s not on a quarterback having a bad night. That’s bad protecting and bad playing calling on my part. A big fat failure on my part,” said Culver.
Maysville had a tough start to the season, too. They trailed New Philadelphia at halftime 42-0 and ended up falling 49-0. Maysville could only manage 97 yards of total offense in the week one matchup.
The Panthers are trying to win their first game against Sheridan since 2014. Head coach Craig Clarke on what he sees out of Sheridan.
‘’Sheridan kids are hard-nosed. It’s a group that will only get better because they are younger at their positions. They’ve always had that game breaker. They do have speed across the board, but I see a more balanced team.”
