THORNVILLE, Ohio – There could not have been any better weather for the 3rd Annual Tour de Buckeye Lake Saturday in Thornville.
Nearly 500 cyclists came out to enjoy an eight, 25, or almost 48 mile bike ride. The ride started and finished at the Buckeye Lake Winery and also went through the beautiful Dawes Arboretum and over the Buckeye Lake Dam. Recording Secretary, William Collinson said it means a lot getting so many bikers to come out and enjoy the Tour de Buckeye Lake.
“We started this ride three years ago and our hope was to get a couple hundred people. We did that the first year out. We had a couple hundred people last year. With the inception of the dam and the Dawes Arboretum being part of the ride this year, I think that is what is driving the numbers and of course the weather,” said Collinson.
Collinson said the ride features beautiful views of the area, and he believes that this event will only continue to grow for years to come.
“It’s Truly astounding. It doesn’t happen without the 50 or so volunteers and people that come out here early in the morning to help us set all this up. They will be working after it is over to take it all down but to get this many people to come to Buckeye Lake is a dream come true for us. I mean, when we first envisioned this, we were hoping that it would build and build and build and I just see it going up from here,” said Collinson.
Collinson wants to thank everyone that came out to enjoy Tour de Buckeye Lake, and thanks to all of the sponsors that made it possible.
