ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local organization is helping kids prepare for the start of a new school year.
Hope to the Rescue hosted their third annual “Gear Up For School” clothing giveaway at the Masonic Temple from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Students from kindergarten through high school from any Muskingum County school district are able to receive free clothing, supplies, and accessories to be ready for another year of school.
“We want to make sure we’re taking our part in making sure the children, if they missed any of the other things they can come here. They can get shoes, they can get clothes, they can get supplies, they can get book bags, they can get hair accessories, they can get different things to make sure they felt confident for their first day back to school,” said Director of Hope to the Rescue, Cheryl Coles.
Kids just need their parents to bring their I.D. in order to receive the items. Several local organizations and agencies donated the supplies for this clothing giveaway. Even the Muskingum County Jobs and Family Services was at the event to assist with the passing out of supplies. Coles said this clothing giveaway helps encourage the kids for their first day.
“I think it’s very important for each child to go into school with confidence and all the supplies that they need. And less burden on the families, if they need extra help with anything that they need to go back,” Coles said.
“It makes me feel good to see the children leave with nice things that they’ve picked out on their own. The little girls with their dresses getting excited. And it’s just awesome to be able to help out in the community,” she added.
If you missed today’s event. The clothing giveaway will take place again Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
