ZANESVILLE, Ohio – There were all kinds of young, smiling faces this morning at Eastside Community Ministry.
As the school year quickly approaches, Eastside Community Ministry held their second annual Back to School Clothing Giveaway. An event, where children could go get some new clothes for school. Eastside Executive Director, Jamie Trout said she expected hundreds of kids to stop by today.
“A couple of years ago, we saw a need. People were coming into our clothing bank and looking for kids clothes for back to school. We never have enough kid’s clothes, so we thought, why not reach out to the community and just have a special day for the kids to come and shop for back to school clothes,” said Trout.
Trout said this has been a very busy time for the ministry, between the Lace Up For Kids, Tools for school, and now the Back to School Clothing Giveaway. She said it is the best feeling to see the kids reactions.
“Everything we have behind me is brand new clothing that was donated from either a store or just local people dropping off clothes so, we have them from toddler all the way up to teenager. Then out back we have gently used items as well.” Trout added, “They are all just grateful. Everybody is in a great mood. Happy to get what we can give them. So, we had some shoes available today so it just wasn’t clothing. We had some underwear and socks, so everyone has just been really grateful.”
Trout wants to thank everyone that helped support this event, those who donated clothing, and the community for its continued support.
